What an inspiring day at the 12th Angel Fair Africa Roadshow, hosted at 22 On Sloane, Africa’s largest startup campus! Alongside the Craca Machel Trust’s impact vehicle Afrishela and Chanzo Capital, we tackled the crucial gender funding gap head-on.
The Angel Investors Masterclass, led by the incredible Keshni Morar of Jozi Angels, truly shone a light on the power of local capital for Africa’s founders! Keshni shared her wealth of experience, emphasizing that true angel investing goes far beyond just funding. It’s about providing strategic guidance, boosting skills, and unlocking vital industry connections.
As Keshni wisely put it: “Local capital offers partnership, agility, and cultural understanding. If you’re building in Africa, raising capital in the currency you earn can help mitigate volatility. Simple hedges like multi-currency accounts and forward contracts protect your balance sheet and prevent devaluation. When you raise and spend within your local market, you gain flexibility, contextual understanding for innovation, and support for sustainable growth!”
We were thrilled to see seven early-stage founders pitch their brilliant solutions across healthcare, mobility, HR tech, and sustainable food systems!
- Nicky Shuenyane of Village Water Systems, bringing clean water to remote communities.
- Simangele Mphahlele of Ejoobi, with an innovative job search platform.
- Greg Wakelin introducing ChaufHER’s empowering women-focused mobility service.
- Thobile Sibeko from Tobs Wraps, showcasing eco-friendly food wraps.
- Eddison Shumba demonstrating TimoRides’ transformation of urban ride-sharing.
- Daniel Adidwa presenting Hit The Road Today’s seamless travel booking app.
- Rosario Zango Jr. unveiling GoodBite’s impressive restaurant management platform.
Each pitch was a testament to the incredible innovation and real-world impact blossoming across Africa’s vibrant startup ecosystem! The energy during networking was fantastic, and we’re so excited to see the collaborations that will emerge from this event!
